PETITION: SAVE YOUR PARKING

Pitition

Members of Palm Springs City Council:

We the undersigned recognize the following:

  • The long-term health and vitality of our beloved City requires successful, independent businesses in the core of our downtown area, serving both residents and visitors.

  • Accessibility of these businesses with close AND convenient parking is important and necessary for me, the customer, to patronize the businesses on the 200-300 block of North Palm Canyon.  I have many choices where I can spend my time and money. EASY access to the location is an important variable to me in deciding who to patronize.

  • Please do NOT eliminate the parking at 261 N. Indian Canyon.  It is the ONLY parking lot (public or private) that serves the 35 small businesses on the east side of the 200-300 block of North Palm Canyon with its 65 parking spaces.

  • Elimination of the parking lot would reduce more than 4000 customers per week and DEVASTATE over 35 small businesses, many of which we have been patronizing for more than a decade (65 spots x 4 cars per day x two people per car x 7 days)

  • We DO recognize and appreciate the important role our Fire Department plays in the City and recognize the need to upgrade the services provided by Station #1, given the scale of development in the downtown corridor over the last few years.

  • We recognize that the Tribe is serviced by Fire Station 1 and can become a partner in finding a better location for the new station.

  • We DO desire to preserve the existing Albert Frey class-1 building, while relocating to a new fire station elsewhere-these are not mutually exclusive alternatives.

  • WE URGE YOU TO WORK WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE LOCATION WHICH WILL ALLOW OUR TOWN'S SMALL BUSINESSES TO SURVIVE AND TRHIVE KEEPING PALM SPRINGS AN INTERESTING AND VIBRANT CITY TO LIVE, WORK AND VISIT.

  • THIS DECISION WILL IMPACT THE LOOK AND FEEL OF OUR CITY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION WHILE SENDING A MESSAGE TO OTHERS CONSIDERING OPENING A SMALL BUSINESS - PLEASE DON'T LOOK THE OTHER WAY.  YOU INDIVIDIALLY HAVE THE POWER TO SAVE OUR SMALL BUSINESSES.

We, the undersigned residents, employees, and visitors, strongly oppose the continued loss of public parking in our community.
